Feng Shui and Physical Form
Form in everyday life
When you look at the world around you, it’s easy to see that rivers follow the valley; traffic follows the road; electricity follows the cables. If there’s a hole in your bucket, the water runs out.
Chi follows form
From these simple observations comes a fundamental root of Feng Shui evaluation; that Chi (or natural energy) follows Form; the physical shape of the surroundings.
People are influenced by form
The next observation is that people are influenced by the flow of chi; roads make communications easier, which in turn leads to a better lifestyle. So in the end, people are influenced by form.
The Feng Shui Form School
What is often known as the Form School, is the study of just how form is affects people. So building shapes and layouts, and the route of roads, pathways, doorways and rivers, can all influence the flow of chi, and therefore the lives of people.
As roads, pathways and rivers can encourage the flow of chi, so can trees, bushes, buildings and other obstacles can get in the way and sometimes block its flow.
Form in traditional Feng Shui
In the traditional or classical Feng Shui consultation process the influences of form and the way that chi flows in a particular place are duly noted; if things can be done to alter the form so that chi can flow more effectively, then great benefits are possible.

Form in Buildings
In a Feng Shui consultation, Mike would generally not recommend that you put a business in a building that looks like it is going to collapse.
Form in Graphics
Form can also be important in graphics, in letterheads, logos, leaflets and the like. Here is one example of a graphic that didn’t properly serve its intended purpose.
Form in Housing
When neighbourhoods appear run down and neglected, negative attitudes are reinforced. See the report from Renewal.net. Another example of how Chi follows form.
Winston Churchill and the importance of form
“We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us”. So said Winston Churchill; obviously a keen observer of the world around us.
